Standard Operating Procedure
I alluded to SOPs or Standard Operating Procedures in an article earlier and Sean Maloney was kind enough to mention that this is really something that I could expand on. In short, anyone could pick up the SOP on a related task and start moving forward on completing task items.

Some Initial Feedback on "Good Enough" Upgrade Steps…
I asked yesterday if people might be interested in some "good enough" steps and reasoning behind upgrades and updates to applications. I’ve had quite a few responses already (you can read the original post here) and wanted to share a couple of them to give you an idea of what was being said. I have to admit, different people took the post different ways, a surprise to me!

Allison: "Amen and yes! More and more we are being forced into the ‘get it done yesterday’ type projects rather than ‘get it done right’. Would sure like some reinforcement, best practices that might make this approach easier to swallow."

Karen: "I’d like to see it and be able to use it to "sway" the developers to convert from 7 to 2005.

The analyst are doing lots of maint in SQL7 & new development in 2005. Not one application conversion in the 2 years that SQL2005 has been on the priority list.

Everyone loves a Quick Win and the facts to back them up."

I was originally writing about "getting it done" – but these and others I received suggest people are as interested in help with the justification of the process as they are in the actual process of getting the conversion done. What are your thoughts?
