Is TempDB a Bottleneck For Performance On Your System?
You may be surprised to hear that you can make a huge difference in performance with SQL Server, as much as 500% as a matter of fact, just by using a tool that helps you better manage TempDB. Take a look at RamDisk Plus – it creates an optimized solution that lets you move tempdb to RAM, while at the same time managing shutdown processes and making sure your content is safe and secure as your SQL Server operates. Fully tested to meet Microsoft’s standards and Designed for Windows Server 2003, RamDisk Plus will bring surprising snap back to the performance of your SQL Server. Find out more here.

DHS Hacked…
If you missed the article, DHS (you know, Department of Homeland Security) was broken into, quite possibly by an insider. Ironically, they were specifically looking to seal up their systems and that effort may have led to the open door.

Here’s a link to an initial article about this.

Now, aside from the fact that is a major "D’OH!" moment for DHS, and aside from the fact that they do, well, security, it does point out something very important to think about.

Perhaps outsourcing, without proper checks and balances and oversight, of your security and data management isn’t such a hot idea. I know, I know. I’m really going overboard here, but think about it if you’re doing it. Make sure you’re taking precautions, and more than that, that you know exactly what’s being done. You can’t outsource so much that you don’t know and understand what’s happening.

More on this as the story evolves and we find out more information (there are just too many "anonymous sources" for my taste) but it sure smells like someone just said "give it to them, let them take care of it" and never looked back. Not a good idea, not good governance.
